Ophelia Inspired Water Set

Updated: Oct 15

lady in the water with foliage and flowers, wearing a lace robe and antique jewelry.

This set is best done on a warm summer’s day.

The story of Ophelia was the inspiration for this set. I wanted to include color tones with a cool classic painting feel to them. I was also thinking that this set would make beautiful wall art and I was planning for a look that I would love to have on my walls as a studio sample.

As the plan was to get wet, we stuck with a minimal styling look. We went with a natural make-up look concealing only a few blemishes, under the eyes, and contouring with soft natural tones. For styling, we focused on a few accessories and we left her hair as it was, since it was going to get wet in the pool anyways. Most of the styling focused on the greenery added to the water. I also added some watercolor paints to tint the water and give it more of a natural creek coloring.

You can see the set and behind-the-scenes in the video below.

Laying on the ground, in the water is not the most comfortable position to be in. This actually gets tiring pretty fast. Also, the water is much colder than you imagine, which is why I am investing in an instant hot water hose attachment for future water sets. Tiffany was a trooper, but we really don’t want to spend a lot of time in a set like this. I also have towels handy to cover her up as soon as we are done so that she can start drying and getting her body temperature back to a normal temp before going into the air conditioning. Although this set makes for gorgeous boudoir and body-loving portraits, I would love to photography a maternity session like this. It would be such a fantastic way to feature and show off a pregnant women’s baby belly.

This is such a fun and creative way to create images that are mystically beautiful.

Ophelia lied down in the river and allowed it to carry her away.

I hope you enjoyed this creative set! I would love to hear any questions or comments that you may have below! Is this something you could see doing?!
